St Mary's Hospice is an independent, charitable, voluntary body funded mainly by the generosity of the community for the community. Founded in 1989 by public subscription, the hospice provides specialised medical and nursing care to people from South Cumbria suffering from serious progressive illnesses. The hospice building is a late Victorian house with an added extension, set in tranquil and beautiful gardens.
