On Friday 16th May, the second St Mary's Hospice ladies walk, appropriately named 'A Walk to Remember' began at Asda in Barrow in Furness at 10pm. Deputy Mayor of Barrow Dorothy Dawes came to start the walk and then took part in the event. Over 560 ladies set off on the 11km walk around Barrow to raise funds for the hospice. Ladies of all ages turned up; some came as far as Leicester to take up the challenge. As you can see from the photographs some of our ladies wore some rather flashy outfits! This year the weather was kind and spirits were high. We would like to thank all those who volunteered to help prior to the event and on the night, all of our supporters, especially Asda Barrow, and most importantly the ladies who took part.
The walk was a huge success and we have estimated that £40, 000 has been raised.
We had some really great comments from some of the ladies that took part:
"My sister and I did the walk and thoroughly enjoyed it - the feeling of camaraderie was wonderful. Well organised too."
"It was, I must say, a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Congratulations once again for organising such an enjoyable event."
"I walked in memory of my dear friend who was in your tender care. I found it very rewarding and well planned."
Due to great success and high demand, the Walk to Remember will be taking place again in 2009. To register you can contact our fundraising team on 01229 430111 or visit www.awalktoremember.org.uk
